Smt. Saroj Punhani is a distinguished former officer of the Indian Audit and Accounts Service (IA&AS), 1984 batch, with nearly four decades of extensive experience in auditing, accounting, public administration, financial management, and governance. She holds a Master of Science degree in Botany from Miranda House, University of Delhi, a Master of Business Administration in Finance from Indira Gandhi National Open University, and a Master of Philosophy degree from the Indian Institute of Public Administration. During her illustrious career in the civil services, she held several senior and prestigious positions, including that of Deputy Comptroller and Auditor General (HR and Training) in the Office of the Comptroller and Auditor General of India. She also served on deputation with various Central Government Ministries and public sector organisations, gaining extensive experience in policy implementation, institutional administration, and public sector governance. Subsequently, she served as the Central Information Commissioner at the Central Information Commission from November 2020 to November 2023, further strengthening her expertise in transparency, accountability, and regulatory governance.
